Smartcard Office FAQ
Do the Smartcard Office packages include everything I need?
Yes, so long as you buy a package that comes complete with a smartcard reader. They all include your first card for storing your passwords and other secure data on. You might want to buy extra cards if more than one person uses your PC, or for backup purposes. If you buy the software only solution you will need a compatible smartcard reader.
What do the various Smartcard Office modules look like?
Screenshots and further information about each module are given below:-
WinLogon
Adding an additional level of security via two factor authentication and implementing single sign on (SSO) Winlogon brings you a convenient and extremely secure method to log on to your PC. You simply add your windows logon details to the key which is encrypted and protected with a 4 digit PIN. On insertion you input the PIN and you are automatically logged onto your PC. As soon as you remove the key the PC locks. You can customise how Winlogon reacts on insertion and removal of the key and add even higher security settings via the Expert mode.
Password Manager
Password Manager is simple: log on as you usually would to your password-protected program, e-mail account or internet store. The logon information (such as your Login ID and password) is automatically stored on the card. When you return, Password Manager recognizes the application or mode of access (e.g. web mail account) and automatically enters the logon information for you.
Disk Encryption
Using the Disk Encryption wizard, you create a new encrypted drive. Once you insert a valid smartcard you activate the drive which can then be used like conventional hard drives in Windows. Once you remove the card the drive becomes invisible and inaccessible to other users. An ideal solution if you carry confidential company information on your laptop and are worried about loss or theft.
Smartcard Manager
Acting as the hub of Smartcard Office, Smartcard Manager shows important information about the attached hardware and smartcards. In addition to managing the passwords and PINs used by the smartcards/access keys, Smartcard Manager also creates backup copies of your data. You will find that Smartcard Manager contains numerous useful options particularly for the Smartcard Office environment. You can set up a virtual access key from here allowing you to continue to use the Office features in the event you loose or damage your access key, so long as you create a regular back up of your access key.
Form Fill
Your personal data such as your name, address, date of birth and telephone number is encrypted and stored in a profile on the smartcard. As soon as you invoke a form (e.g. an order form on the Internet), Form Fill automatically fills in the form at your request. You can create a number of different profiles such as Home and Work. The profiles stored on the access key can be edited at any time using Form Fill Administration.
Address Book
As soon as a valid access key is inserted, a new folder entitled "CHIPDRIVE Address Book" is displayed in the Favorites menu of Internet Explorer that contains the bookmarks saved on the access key. This folder can be used like any other Windows folder with all functions such as Drag & Drop. Internet Explorer does not differentiate between default favorites on the hard disk and those on the access key. In Mozilla Firefox, the stored bookmarks are displayed in a submenu of the browser's context menu. Bookmarks can be stored on the access key by using the menu item "Add to Address Book".
Note Pad
Notepad lets you encrypt short memos and important information and store them on your access key.
