2008.08.22 - Revolutionary 'single door' access solutions

As well as stocking HID's Crescendo cards and Crescendo Evaluation Kit, Smartcard Focus has recently introduced several HID door access products. The self contained Edge Solo control unit is powered over Ethernet (PoE) and enables remote management and report generation via a standard web browser. Access rights, user information, administration, door configuration and retrieval of events are managed through the embedded web interface with no additional software required.

Unlike most other access control systems, Edge Solo provides fully distributed intelligence and decision making at the door, maximising flexibility whilst minimising installation and maintenance costs.

2008.08.13 - Smartcard Focus offers new contactless card integration software

Read-a-Card is a software utility created for Smartcard Focus that allows users to easily view a contactless smartcard's unique ID and automatically insert it into text input fields on other applications. The software even allows for the recording of time stamps when a card is presented offering opportunities for event logging in applications such as time recording and access functions.

Users can implement Read-a-Card within projects and developments, or as a stand alone tool alongside their work, helping with the easy integration of RFID technology into new or existing systems. Read-a-Card is an ideal utility for anyone developing or implementing contactless technology.

2008.08.11 - Out-of-the-box, standards-compliant support for dozens of logical access applications

The Crescendo series of smartcards specialise in logical and physical access control by incorporating HID's iClass and Proximity or MIFARE and Proximity technologies with an integrated cryptographic contact chip. By combining logical and physical access control in a single card the Crescendo C700 series reduces card management costs and increases user convenience.

As well as supplying the cards themselves Smartcard Focus have created a Crescendo start-up guide to help users set up Microsoft Windows Smartcard authentication, emphasising the main tasks required in enabling and running a secure two-factor authentication system. This is included in the Crescendo Evaluation kit which also contains the relevant drivers and Crypto Service Provider (CSP) software, helping to create a usable and easily understandable package for Crescendo implementation.
